Nine Ways the Common Core Will Change Classroom Practice
This article was written by William Schmidt, a University Professor of education at Michigan State University. He wrote this article to inform supporters of the good and bad news on common core standards. The good news was that a majority of teachers have read them and like them all but the bad news is that the majority of the mathematics is the same. The nine importand differences in the common core standards are: greater focus, coherence, skills, understanding, and application, emphasis on practices, more nonfiction, focus on evidence, "staircase" of text complexity, speaking and listening, and literacy in the content areas. I agree fully with this article I feel that it slows down learning and focuses more on one thing at a time so that the students can learn and comprehend the material better.
