Ghostery and Collusion
After I downloaded collusion and ghostery, I found that people were tracking me through the internet. It was not so much people tracking me it was more of pages, such as google. It was strange to see that some websites I only had about 1 or 2 trackers but others there was up to 5 trackers. I definitely like these apps because I can see who is trying to track me and block them.

Snezana Markovic
This article is written my a Serbian computer science teacher, Snezana Markovic. Serbia's education policies do not allow online education for their students so Snezana came up with an effective online learning program for her students at her school. She was two first place awards for this creative online progrom in 2010 and then again in 2012. Her work has transformed learning for the teachers and the students at her school. She believed that the policies and rules that were in place did not take the students into consideration so that is why she began this online learning program. On her online learning program students were able to use any tool they wanted to so that they could study any topic needed. This gave students a chance to set a goal for themselves and helped them to be more hands on while learning. Markovic found that students were way more motivated to learn and this encouraged them to be successful.
Teachers' Expectations Can Influence How Students Perform
I find this article very interesting because it is not something I would have noticed until it was addressed. This article explains how teachers expectations influence the way they treat their students and also how it affects the way students perform. A Harvard professor, Robert Rosenthal, did a study on an elementary school from San Francisco. He renamed the normal IQ test so that the teachers nor the students knew what it was. After the students took this test he then selected, at random, a handful of students that were "over average" in their score. These students were not actually over average he just told the teachers that so that he could study the teachers behaviors. Rosenthal found that the teachers actions and expectations towards these selected students had changed and these kids actual became smarter. After this study was done Rosenthal met a guy from the University of Virginia, Robert Pianta, who was studying how to get teachers to change their expectation of kids. He found that the beliefs of teachers can be changed if they are trained to do so. Teachers would take a standard pedagogy course which trained them to teach differently. After they took this course Pianta would video their class and study how their teaching expectations changed.

Nine Ways the Common Core Will Change Classroom Practice
This article was written by William Schmidt, a University Professor of education at Michigan State University. He wrote this article to inform supporters of the good and bad news on common core standards. The good news was that a majority of teachers have read them and like them all but the bad news is that the majority of the mathematics is the same. The nine importand differences in the common core standards are: greater focus, coherence, skills, understanding, and application, emphasis on practices, more nonfiction, focus on evidence, "staircase" of text complexity, speaking and listening, and literacy in the content areas. I agree fully with this article I feel that it slows down learning and focuses more on one thing at a time so that the students can learn and comprehend the material better.

Out-of-school Settings Create Climate for New Skills
The big picture of this article is explaining the importance of learning inside the classroom and outside the classroom. It starts of by talking about the improvements of digital learning and the 21st century skills. It explains how students need a good balance between how and where they learn. This article also talks about the importance of connective learning. Connective learning tries to find how students learn best and in what environment. Out of school settings are just as important for students to learn as in class assignments. Creative programs are also a great way to grab students attention and get them interested in learning. It helps to get children more engaged in learning new ways rather than the original learning techniques. The article explains how teachers are learning games and using GPS to help them learn and be more engaged. I think that all these are great ways for students to get more involved in class and with learning.
KQED News
This article explains how California has recently adopted the new Common Core State Standards. It says that it grants teachers the right to be more flexible and creative when teaching their students. Teachers are starting to see that with the use of media students are starting to get more involved and excited about learning. Basically, the CCSS shows a lot of emphasis on reading and understanding articles and also on digital fluency, but with the new technology we have now the teachers can get the students more involved. Teachers are now showing clips and 21st century media that relates to the students to get them more involved with learning. I think this new way of teaching is a great way for the students to learn. The CCSS is very important of course, but it is always good to have some visual information for the students to relate to.
New Technology Welcomes Students in Western Springs
This article is about the new advanced technology that has come about at John Laidlaw elementary school in Western Springs. Teachers here are trying to find new ways to get there students involved in the classroom. They have found that Google Chromebooks are a great way for their students to get excited about doing work and continue to learn at the same time. It states in the article that there are 30 Google Chromebooks in the fifth grade at Western Springs and the students are responding with eager motivation. A Chromebook is a type of laptop that has several google documents on it. It allows students and teachers to write and edit papers as well as quizzes or test. This seems to be an improvement in active learning for the classroom. I definitley see the Google Chromebooks as a positive learning tool for studnts. It also says in the article that there are over 200 ipads issued at Laidlaw elementary school for kids in kindergarten to second grade. I think that the advanced technology is great for classrooms but I do think that kindergarten, first, and second greade are way to young to be dealing with ipads or laptops.

Eight problems with Common Core Standards
In the article, "Eight problems with Common Core Standards" it states some of the conflicts teachers have with what they have to teach in the classroom. All teachers have to go by the "core" classes which are math, science, language arts, and social studies. After these four core classes are taught students have to take a state test on them. The article explains that the state test are completely irrelevant to the way teachers teach in their classrooms. The article also talks about whoever came up with the common core standards was not an experienced educator. I do think that the common core standards could be redone to help benefit the way a teachers teaches in the classroom and also the way a student learns.
Educators Evaluate Flipped Classrooms
This article on "flipping classrooms" has a lot of helpful information in it and I think that it goes good with the previous article, "As K-12 classrooms go high-tech, colleges get more virtual." This article explains a new technique known as a "flipped classroom." This new movement gives teachers the choice to send videos home with their students so that they can get the extra help they may need. I feel that this will be a huge success in many school districts, especially the underprivileged schools. A "flipped classroom" also gives the teachers and students more one-on-one and hands on time in the classroom. Studies show that this has been a pretty successful movemet. Several schools all over the nation have already adopted this movement and they have had great successes. The article also explains a fairly new improvement to a "flipped classroom" and it is the mastery-based model of a "flipped classroom." For the mastery-based model, students are not required to watch the lecture videos at home; they are given an outline of the notes, videos, and worksheets that they might need for a test or quiz and then they are encouraged to watch the video for extra help. There are several negative and positive attitudes from teachers toward this new method, but I think as it is practiced more through schools it will definitely help improve education.
As K-12 classrooms go high-tech, colleges get more virtual
This article was published to explain how advanced technology has gotten in the lower education classrooms and how its starting to decrease in the college level classes. Lower elementary classrooms and high school classrooms have all upgraded their use of technology to teach their students. This article explains the postive and negative sides of having advanced technology in the schools. I think that the more ipads that are given to students still in middle school and high school will take away from the personal side of education. The use of advanced technology has grown so much that, it was stated in the article that more than 900 Cathedral High School students are required to buy ipads for the school year and if they could not afford them then there was scholarships being offered. One positive side to using this advanced technology is that the students are more educated on the new technology then teachers are and they can help when its needed. Also in the article it explains how colleges are moving away from the new technology. It states that in the future there will be more online classes for college students rather than students living four years on campus and taking all their classes in a classroom.
